Throwback to Wakeboarding at The World Games

Twenty years after the one and only appearance of Cable Wakeboarding at The World Games in Duisburg in 2005, the discipline was back on program of this major international event. The World Games are defined as a multi-sport event bringing together sports and disciplines that are not included in the Olympic and Paralympic Games. The first edition was held in 1981 in the United States, aiming to create a new international showcase for sport.

In 2005, four waterski and wakeboard disciplines were featured: Barefoot, Boat Wakeboard, Cable Wakeboard, and Overall Waterski. In the Men’s event, Joshua Rice (USA) took the win ahead of Benjamin Suess (GER) and Nick Davies (GBR) on the Duisburg cable. In Women, Denise De Haan (NED) grabbed Gold, in front of Kirsten-Brigitte Leifel (GER) and Pauline Dyrschka (GER).

Historic moments in Chengdu

Now sport has evolved and grown a lot. Athletes are pushing new limits and showtime is real for spectators.

In Women’s event, Julia Rick took back Gold after her second place in World Championships last September in Paris. The young Italian lady Vanessa Titarelli keeps on getting stronger to fight with multiple-time champions Julia and Sanne Meijer which is the current Cable World Champ and was also competing in the Wakeboard boat event !
